Mid-Ohio July 22-24- Daytona SportBike

Well he’s moved up to the Daytona SportBike class. Emerson showed up a few days before the race to get in some serious mileage cycling with a local cycling club to prep him for the race weekend. Moving up to this class will be helpful to the Ducati since we can now use homologated parts designed and tested by the DUCSHOP to improve the handing of the bike. The bike was at a disadvantage in the SuperSport class without being able to use these parts. Qualifying on Friday didn’t quite go as well as we had hoped (21st) but working with new parts on the bike it and getting them dialed in takes a bit of time. Emerson was learning the track again, the only time he had ever been on the track was on the 125 with the Red Bull Rookies Cup a few years ago. Race 1 on Saturday was going well until the bike over heated and Emerson had to pull over. We talked about not drafting so much the next day to help elevate this problem (overheating happened to many other models of bikes on the grid). Race 2 Emerson got a good start and kept a steady pace and then ¾ the way through the race Emerson started picking them off up to a very good finish of 12th place. “Considering who his veteran competition is and this being the first weekend on a bike with new parts and being the youngest in the Daytona SportBike class by 2 years we are very happy with his result. Emerson has been racing for a long time and it won’t take long for him to start making progress into the top 10” said his father.

Barber – April 30-May 1 Practice session with DUCSHOP

Birmingham, Alabama

We had a great few days of practice. The DUCSHOP Ducati’s ran perfectly and even though there was a lot of traffic on the track were able to get a few clear laps in. The weather couldn’t have been better. The track is just the way Emerson remembers it (It has been a few years since he has been at this track). The Dunlop AMA spec tires seem to work really well, we were very happy with them. Heading to Beaverun, Pa for a practice in a few weeks.

Round 1 - Daytona International Speedway
Daytona Beach, FL
Daytona 200

The first thing out of Emerson’s mouth after first practice was “This track is fast, I have never been able to ride at 175+mph for so long!”.  The DUCSHOP bikes ran flawlessly. The 1st race was going really well with Emerson in 4th place until he low sided just after turn 1. Emerson was OK other than some really good road rash on his side as he become trapped under the bike as it was sliding and ground down through the leathers and into his hip area. He got patched up at the track hospital and was looking forward to the race on day 2. Race 2 Emerson maintained a fast race pace and was able draft past a pack of 3 others riders at the finish line to get a 4th place finish. Emerson was pleased with his finish but is looking to podium at the next race at Barber in June.
